The 2021 theme – Abide in my love and you shall bear much fruit (John 15:5-9) – calls us to pray and to work for reconciliation and unity in the church, with our human family, and with all of creation. Drawing on the Gospel image of vine and branches, it invites us to nourish unity with God and with one another through contemplative silence, prayer, and common action. Grafted into Christ the vine as many diverse branches, may we bear rich fruit and create new ways of living, with respect for and communion with all of creation.
Congratulations to Margaret Borders on receiving the ACSTA Faithful Steward Long Service Award. Your steadfast commitment to Catholic Education shines in all that you do.
This weekend we celebrate Catholic Education Sunday. We are so grateful for the gift of publicly funded Catholic education here in Alberta. May God continue to bless all students, staff and their families.

Ash Wednesday
Click here to see our LCSD Ash Wednesday video.
Ash Wednesday is the day many Christians mark as the first day of Lent, the time of reflection and penitence leading up to Easter Sunday.
Clergy all over the world dispense ashes, usually made by burning the palm fronds distributed on last year’s Palm Sunday, making the sign of the cross on the bowed foreheads before them. As they “impose” or “dispense” the ashes, the pastor or priest reminds each Christian of Genesis 3:19: “For dust you are and to dust you shall return.”

Seventh Annual LCSD Girls' Retreat
Girls from across Lakeland Catholic School District had the opportunity to participate in the seventh annual girls' retreat this past weekend.
The retreat began on Friday, January 31 at 6:00 pm at École Notre Dame High School in Bonnyville and it ran until the next day at noon.
Staff and student leaders engaged the girls in a number of reflective and group activities designed to bring them closer. In addition to the fun and games, organizers held open question and answer sessions and led the group through worship. The culminating activity was the Big Cook where students came together to prepare meals for those less fortunate in our community.
Siobhan Penner is a teacher and Youth Minister at École Notre Dame High School and she is the main organizer of the event. Thank you Siobhan for your continued commitment to this important retreat.

Our Catholic schools work together with the home and the parish to provide a holistic Catholic faith community that fosters each child’s growth in faith. Our parishes are active participants in our school liturgies and our school members serve on local pastoral councils and are active in many ministries in our local churches. Religious instruction and school liturgies provide opportunities for students to learn about and celebrate the sacraments while the parish and parents share the vital role of preparing our children to receive their sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation.
Sacramental Preparation:
Grade 2 - First Reconciliation
Grade 3 - First Communion and Confirmation
Grade 4 and up - Rite of Christian Initiation for Children or Teens
