New teachers with Lakeland Catholic School District have the advantage of support to help them through the first years as teachers. The New Teacher Support Program helps teachers adjust to their new environments, and be successful as they grow as educators.
Lakeland Catholic School District has a staff member dedicated to providing support to these new teachers. The goal of the program is to ease teachers into different programs across the District, and not overwhelm them from the beginning. Without this program, new teachers would be thrust into the classroom with little support.
This program is not only there to help teachers adjust to their teaching environment, but also a means to help new teachers network with other teachers around the District, both new and veteran. There is strong support in place to help those new to the area adjust to their living environments. Our support teacher is available 24 hours a day and it is not unusual for her to receive phone calls late at night from teachers needing advice or support.
This program has been strongly welcomed by new teachers, who feel the support they have received has truly helped their transition to classroom teaching.
Quotes from teachers in the District
“Helping explain the curriculum and giving ideas for execution was a huge help. I felt way more confident in teaching social studies after having someone go through it all with me. The support also helped me place classroom management strategies into my class. They were also a huge help by just listening and giving input on a variety of subjects, whether it be how to deal with certain students or how to implement certain things into my classroom.”
“I had a change of teaching assignment two days into the school year and was already stressed from the first week. They were there to help me figure things out and make me more confident about my new teaching subjects. I would have been completely lost for the rest of the week if I hadn’t had that support."
“The support provided to new teachers in this district is great and I look forward to many years with this district.”
